Like you, we are managing WFH with our kids. Screen time is inevitable and online classes, programs and YouTube Videos keep the kiddos busy while you work.
Did you know 90 mins of outdoor time per and helps limit the progression of nearsightedness?
That said, these next few weeks are going to involve a significantly LARGER amount of screen time than our children’s eyes are used to.
Here are tips to maintain healthy vision during this time:
- Download flux at http://justgetflux.com/. This manages the blue light coming though your device and as we know, excess exposure to blue light can interfere with sleep. Sleep is imperative to maintaining a healthy immune system – something we all need to be especially conscious of right now.
- Use larger screens (i.e. laptop, cast to a TV) when you can over a small tablet or phone – this will avoid your kids squinting and hunching over
- Pull the screens back and monitor distance from the screen regularly
- Still make time for nature walks. Nature walks (while safely maintaining physical distancing), are important to balance your child’s near, distance and intermediate vision particularly when they are getting a higher amount of screen time.
When our office re-opens, we are happy to assess your kiddos to ensure their vision is still healthy and prescriptions have not changed.
